About Master
Lawrence Lee
The Founder of the Total Control martial arts system.
Master Lawrence Lee with 59 years of Kung Fu and Muay Thai experience
came from very humble beginnings. Originally from Malaysia, he was
beaten up by a girl in kindergarten called Yoke King. She was a huge
chunky lass with more male hormones than she knew what to do with.
That was the defining moment of his life. He decided at that age that
he must be a good fighter and with the strongest mind. Master Lee started to learn
Shiao Lin from his father Tong, also a Kung Fu master.
At the age of 8 Lawrence realised he was intuitive and just “knew” what
would work and what wouldn’t. His father’s colleagues would teach him
when he was busy. One of them had dubious methods and Lawrence dumped his
material and did not take him seriously. He still had to confirm this
by using this material in sparring with the neighbouring kids and got
beaten. He had to pay for it with pain and experience but it was worth
it. He kept sparring and researching to see what worked and what didn’t.
Lawrence left for Australia at 18 to study. Again he sought out a
martial arts and did Karate for a while. There was not much on offer in
those days. When he found a Kung Fu teacher he switched . When he met
Master Vincent Lo of Wing Chun Kung Fu he remained with him for a good
few years.
Lawrence continued to learn other Kung Fu like White Crane, Muay Thai,
Choy Lee Fud and many others, always researching and appreciating other
technologies.
While in Australia, Lawrence left mainstream martial arts. The majority of
material was trial and error, reactive, too much kata (set movements
fighting imaginary opponents) and martial artists stealing material from
each other, etc.
He had to have some control and it had to be a proper combat system
based on realistic situations, not a one way demonstration where things
are choreographed for the style to look good but in real life it will
be hard to pull it off as they have not researched other variables that
can affect outcome in real time.
Most martial artists do a good job in modifying their technology. When
Lawrence left mainstream martial arts he had to work from the ground up
and redesign every technique keeping things to a minimum. He has a
minimalistic philosophy where less is best.
An interesting example of his original work is the wave side kick where
he collapses his spine and make a thrust kick travel faster than a snap
kick! The by-product of this kick is that it has mind freeze technology
attached to it, allowing him to shut down an opponent’s mind.
Yes, most of these sound more like science fiction than merely
science. Exciting times are here! But then Lawrence’s system is not
for everyone.
People who are closed minded
will not be able to appreciate or understand Master Lee's unconventional
fighting system
